PROTEMIC held its official Kick-Off Meeting in Cork, Ireland on 11th December 2024. The network was formally launched by MTU’s Vice-President for Research & Innovation, Prof. Hugh McGlynn, and the EU Project Officer addressed the consortium via Teams link.
The Project Coordinator, Dr. William Whelan-Curtin (MTU), gave an overview of the aims and objectives of the project, as a reminder to everyone, and the lead PIs for each partner gave a brief introduction and a recap of the Doctoral Candidate projects for which they are Lead. The Supervisory Board was formally appointed, as was the streamlined Executive Board which will be responsible for day-to-day running of the network.
Discussions on the day included topics such as the recruitment strategy for DCs, website and dissemination activities, and technical arrangements and specific details for individual DC projects. The Deans Board also convened to discuss and agree on the inter-institutional Double Degree Agreements.
The day finished with tours of the CAPPA (Centre for Advanced Photonics & Process Analysis) labs at MTU, and a visit to the Black Castle Observatory, a science outreach initiative co-run by MTU and Cork City Council, where they received a tour of the exhibition, the historic building and the functioning research observatory on the roof. The event dinner was held at the Castle Café at the venue.
We look forward to an exciting and stimulating Doctoral Network!
